This is the official Court
website for the Shaffer v. Continental Casualty Company class
action settlement. The Court granted final approval of the settlement on June
11, 2008. However, on July 7 and July 8, two policyholders filed appeals from the Court's
approval order, and therefore, the settlement will not become final and
effective until after the approval order is affirmed and the time for any
further appeal has expired. Updates concerning the resolution of the appeals
will be posted as they become available. Keep in mind
that you will not receive any benefits until the settlement becomes final and
you are found to be eligible for them. Also, if you stop paying premiums
for your policy and lapse your Policy now or change your status between February
1, 2008 and the date the settlement becomes final, you may give up your right to
the benefit you requested. If you submitted a valid Benefits Form you will
receive a mailing from CNA when the settlement becomes final. To learn more about the
